Mars Snooper
Gail built this rocket in the
mid-seventies to early eighties. It was one of the most perfectly straight-flying
rockets I have ever seen; no spin whatsoever. Gail gripes and says, "Yeah! That's
because James hovered over me the whole time I was building it. What a perfectionist!
However, I noticed his rockets didn't fly as straight as mine." I have to admit,
I used to be a perfectionist. I've mellowed a lot since then. Blake says, "Not
much." One of the fin pods was damaged on landing the last time it flew and
I couldn't find the same tail-cone for the wingpod when I made repairs, so I lengthened
the tube for the tail pod to make up the difference. Also, the fins were all broken
off and some damaged from being stored in the attic, so I had to make a number of
repairs before it could be flown. No flight since. I've been waiting for a day with
really calm winds when Gail can come out and launch. So far, that opportunity hasn't
come.
