Meteor
Actually,
this is the sister of another rocket that has been retired. I bought two of these
in the early eighties, one each for both Cindy and Missy to build when they were
about ten. They did a good job, but never got interested. The body of Missy's was
crushed in storage, but Cindy's was still in pretty good shape with only two fins
broken off. I reglued them onto the body and it was ready for launch. Unfortunately,
when I tried to pull the paper streamer from the tube it just fell apart. I bought
some paper streamer material though and remade it. Flights are from recent times.
First
flight - Blake's school yard. Winds calm. Launched with B6-4. One of the reglued
fins must have loosened about halfway up. The initial flight was perfect, but then
started spinning about halfway up. Recovery was fine, but noticed one of the fins
was loose. Repaired for next flight.
Second flight - Brad's place. Winds 15mph,
gusting to 20mph. Launched with C5-3. Perfect flight, but streamer mostly disintegrated.
Broke a fin on landing. Repaired for next flight. Plan to replace the streamer before
next flight, though. The paper streamers burn and tear too easily.
