Gene,
I think this webpage is great!!! And it's super that you are doing the family genealogy for your family. I did the family research for the Terry side of the family and got all the genealogy documents and history from England, and have the family crest, etc. Want to do the Strahan side of the family, but have not had the time. Maybe that will be this summer's project.
Anyway, it's a great webpage and lookin' forward to seein' ya'll at the "cuzin' reunion".

I need you to teach me sometime. Aunt Melba said she is proud of all "her Kids", which includes the whole clan. Love you loads, Sissy

Was looking for information on my grandfather. His name is Ernest T. Griffin from OK & Tx areas.
All I know is he retired from the Santa Fe RR and died when my dad was 7yrs., which would have been around early 1940's. Any information would be appreicated.

Hi, just found your website while doing research on my Griffin's from Gonzales Co.,Tx. Yes, we are the other Griffin's in the county! My granddaddy was Travis Clyde Griffin, Sr. of Smiley, and Mound Creek. He always told me that we were not kin to any of the Griffin's in Gonzales County. Do you remember any of the older Griffin folk ever talking about the 'OTHER' Griffin's in the Nixon/Smiley area?

Our generations:
1) Isaac Wilson Griffin b.1800 N.C. d.1870 Dallas Co.,Tx. and Elizabeth H.H. b. 1803 S.C.
2) Dr.Newton Cokley Griffin b.Tnn 1831 d.1898 Tx. & Sarah E. Gary
2)Jasper Griffin b.1832/33 Tnn.
2)Martha Griffin b.183-? Tnn.
2)Mary Griffin b.1838 Tnn.
2)Jacob Josephus Griffin b.1842 Louisiana
2)Melissa Texana Griffin b.1845 Tx.
2)Unice Jane Griffin b.1848 Tx.
2)A.J.Viola Griffin b.1851 Tx.

Dr.N.C.Griffin and Sarah Gary Griffin came to the Nixon,Smiley area sometime during the Civil War and settled. This is their children:
3)Isaac Wilson Griffin b.1859 Grimes Co.,Tx. d.1931 Dewitt Co. & Laura M. Burt (Yorktown is where they settled)
3)Jasper Cokley Griffin b.1861 Freestone Co.,Tx. d.1906 Gonzales Co. (Settled near Mound Creek)& Harriett M. Tennille (THIS IS MY LINE)
3)Quircus Mansfield Griffin b.1864 Burleson Co.,Tx. d.1942 Gonzales Co. (Settled Gonzales Township all their lives)& Minnie E. Sample
3)Jacob Josephus Griffin b. 1876 Karnes Co.,Tx. d.1934 Galveston Co.,Tx. (Settled Texas City all their lives)& Callie D. McGee
3)Terissa R. Griffin & Louis S. Hoggett (Settled in Junction area)
3)Buelah Irene Griffin & Joshua O. Cobb (Settled in Junction area)
3)Blanche Sally Griffin (died a toddler)

Also loved your site!

I am another Texas Griffin. I have not been fortunate enough to find my lost Griffins. My great grandfather was William Smith Griffin married to Mary Elizabeth Gann. They married in 1878 in Burnet County, Texas and died in Brown County, Texas. All I know about our Griffins, is that William's mother was Virginia West Griffin buried in Burnet County, Texas. His father was Allen Griffin who died during the Civil War. William, his mother Virginia, Lula a sister, and other brothers and sisters (names are unknown) came to Texas in 1875 from Georgia. So there is other Texas Griffins that is my relatives, but I don't know who they are. If and when I find them, I hope that they are nice as your family.

Hello there! I accidentally stumbled onto your webpage... but glad that I did. I am originally from Houston and my father, Quircus William Griffin, Jr. (Bill) was born and raised in the Gonzalez / Nixon / Smiley area before moving to Houston in the early 1970's. I am 27 years old and just returned to school at Columbia University in New York. Before moving to the NorthEast I lived in Austin for 8 years.

I have been wondering about my linneage for quite some time now... if you know of any "griffin" reunions, please keep me informed so I can pass the word to my dad our families back in Texas and elsewhere.

Great site, you have a wonderful family!

Hi! Once again I was able to go to your web site and find information regarding the family. Thanks again for all of your hard work. Would you please add my grandmother's name to the Nixon Cemetary list - Dora Hastings. She died December 9, 1981. Thanks

I have enjoyed your website so much. I am descended from the Weirs in Tennessee, but our bunch didn't leave. I'm descended from Jonathon's brother George Weir. You have done a magnificant job. My cousin and I have just finished an 800 page book on how we descend from the Weirs down to our line the Shooks, also from McMinn Co., Tennessee

Jean, Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful family history. I have been a fan of your site for several years.
Lately, I have wanted to visit the final resting place of my GGGrandmother Safronia Ware Cure. Everyone I have spoken to seems to believe that the Ware Cemetery and the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Pandora are one and the same. Is this correct? I was not able to find Safronia there. Did I overlook her?
Also, my Aunt Lois Temple Wolfshohl believes that Elias Cure died while visiting relatives in Kendall County near the Comal countyline. She said that a housing development was built on the land where Elias was buried. I am not sure who her source was for this information.
I now live near Converse, Texas. I would really like to meet Rebecca Dugi, especially if she lives in this general vicinity.
Does anyone know how former San Antonio disc jockey and race car driver Ricky Ware is related to us?

I am descended from my 4th great grand father---John Griffin--b. 1740 in Powhatan county, VA. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and was given a land bounty in Green County, GA and came there in 1792. At least two of his sons came to Clarke County, AL and another son-- Rev. Thomas Griffin was a Methodist circuit rider in SC, LA, AL, TN and even came to Texas in the early 1800's to visit relatives in the Ford family. I am in process of transcribing Rev. Thomas Griffin's journal.
It appears that there are some similarities in our Griffin families-- such as: names like Bird or Byrd, Thomas, John, Hampton, and Confederate military service, etc. There is a Griffin family legend that two Griffin brothers went to Texas (not exactly sure if FROM----- VA, GA, AL or where) and never came back. There was a William Griffin at the battle of San Jacinto and a Peter Griffin at Goliad with Fannin. Both Griffin men survived the War for Texas Indep. Not sure if these two Griffin's were from our tree but the William Griffin was born in 1812 in AL, and went back to AL to farm after San Jacinto, all matcjhes for my 2nd great grandfather William Griffin from Clark County, AL.

Does your Griffin tree connect to our Griffin tree from VA or GA or AL???
