Sophronia Tennessee Ware was born April 9, 1839 in Brenham, Texas and died December 18, 1914 in Nixon, Texas. Buried in Ware Cemetery. Married Elias Tom Cure, May 27, 1854. Elias was born November 9, 1827 in New York State and died May 29, 1905. Elias and friends, on horseback, left  for California to join the Gold Rush.  Elias is listed in the 1850 Census for Luzerne Co. Pa.  living with his mother and sister.  Many had to walk and some pushed wheel barrows.  Elias met William Rankin Ware in California. (William Rankin Ware was Sophronia's Father)    William and Elias  became partners using pack mules and carried supplies out to sell the miners. Prices were high and sometimes a box of salt brought $5.00. Elias and William returned to Texas together. They traveled by boat to Panama, used camels to reach the Gulf of Mexico and on to the Brazos.

William Rankin Ware (son of Hugh & Margaret Weir) was born in Blount Co., Tenn. April 9, 1816, and died January 8, 1873 in Karnes County, Texas. When William was only a few years old his parents moved from Virginia to Blount County, Tennessee where they were living when William moved to Texas. Syntha was of the same family as Justice McReynolds who was a member of the United States Supreme Court. In 1837 William and his brother Samuel came to Texas, settling near Old Washington on the Brazos. In 1849 William left for California with $1,000.00 in his pocket to join the Gold Rush. On his way home from the Gold Fields he was robbed and arrived home (Brazos) broke. About 1855 he moved to Williamson County, Texas with his family where he pursued farming. In 1861 he enlisted as a 3rd Lt. in the 27th Brigade that was formed in Williamson County. His Captain was R. C. Hart and the General was E. S. C. Robertson. While William was in the war, his wife Syrtha ran an Inn in Georgetown, Texas. After the Civil War William and his family moved to Karnes County, about 8 miles from the present location of Nixon, Texas near the junction of the Wilson, Karnes and Gonzales County lines, on Highway 80, and continued to farm. William & Syntha are buried in the Ware Cemetery.
