Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, below is an excerpt from a Christian unity prayer. Please give it prayerful consideration and, if the Spirit leads, please pray this yourself and let us agree together in it, in prayer before the Lord.

CHRISTIAN UNITY PRAYER, PART 23 OF 25: “Lord, Let This Prayer Be Your House of Prayer Where We Unite To Praise You and Your Absolute Power to Protect Us From All Fear of the World, Perfected Together in Your Love for All the Members of the Body of Christ”

This is the prayer our spirits pray together to you, Father, who have given us of your Spirit, now come to live within us. Let this, our prayer, be the house you have built, together with us in our hearts, where we offer you spiritual sacrifices, and where we invite your Spirit to dwell in praise, with our spirits forever. Let this house of prayer be your house, Lord, a house not built with hands, nor by man’s power or might, but by your Spirit, built of truth and the word, on the cornerstone of Jesus Christ and on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. We pray with one voice, Lord, that you would find the prayer in our hearts to be an acceptable home for all time.

In the name of Jesus, Father, we pray to the one Spirit of God, to you who call yourself, “…I AM…” (Exodus 3:14), who is now become by overwhelming, undeserved grace and mercy, part of the “I am” when we speak of our own souls. We pray to you by whom is all that is; whose universe it is; and in whose mind the whole of the universe is but one of many ideas.

We pray to you who set the boundaries of the dominion of man at your pleasure; and to you whose might is so great, that among those fools who would stand in opposition, even their prince must ask permissions for the times and the seasons of the evils he would work. That feeble prince of fools may exist only, Lord, as you may chose to allow, for the Bible says, “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things” (Isaiah 45:7).

Lord of hosts, there are times in our lives when we catch just a glimpse of the tiniest part of the glory and power that is yours; and the majesty of the thing frightens us, that one should have so much. But to our hearts is returned a consolation, greater than our fear, many times over: that, beyond our comprehension, we are perfected in our hearts because we have your love for all your children; that also beyond our knowing is the measure of your power to bestow great grace and gifts; that we may seek and secure all good things for ourselves and for our families by serving you in the love of all the members of the body of Christ, and the Bible says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18).

How many gods must we come to know? There is only you, the one God.

How many masters of the universe may there be, and what is their power? There is only you; and your power is above all others, in heaven, on earth, or below, such that no power exists except that is either yours or given of you.

Love in Jesus to All!

We cordially invite any interested Christian to read and pray the rest of this prayer, or just to come and talk with Christians of all backgrounds, on a Christian unity email discussion mailing list. We’d love to hear from you about any Christian topic at all, and especially to discuss any topic related to unity of all Christians, of all Christian denominations and groups. (Btw, non-Christian visitors are welcome too!) You can find info on the email discussion mailing list, which is called the “Christian Unity Conference” (CUC), or info about a combined effort on a larger prayer for Christian unity, part of which is shown above, called the “Christian Unity Prayer Project” (CUPP), by going to the following URL:
