TROOP 1113 – APRIL 2004 NEWSLETTER

The Past: The Spring Camporee at Camp Green Dickson was a great time for all. The weather was great, the events interesting and the coyotes made sweet music for us. If you are interested in having another event at this camp let me know, a fall campout would be pretty neat.

The Present: The month of April is a Religious month for many different faiths. I urge all our scouts to visit their place of worship and renew your relationship with God.

Our Troop has two events this month. The first is the Scout Fair at Reliant Arena

Saturday the 24th from noon to five pm. We will be cooking our famous banana cobblers as well as other favorites. The second event is our annual Family campout to Enchanted Rock State Park on Friday, April 30th until Sunday, May 2nd

The Future: May will be a busy month. School is winding down and the smell of finals is in the air. The air is also fragent with the smell of suntan oil on our annual trip to Schlitterbahn Water Park the week end of the 28th and 29th. Other events for the month include the Family Potluck Dinner on Tuesday, May 11th, District Food Drive on Sat the 15th followed by Pancake Sunday the 16th. June is Summer Camp from Sunday, the 20th through Saturday the 26th.

SM Minute: In April I like to go to the bays early in the morning, say—leaving at 3:30 a.m. By 5:00 a.m. I’m at the beach, coffee and donuts finished waders on, wading belt cinched down tight. I walk about 15 to 20 yards out into the water and wait for the dawn. Then the sky turns from black to purple to rose red with shafts of gold shooting upward. The gulls, terns and pelicans wheel and dive in the morning light. Near shore a school of finger mullet splash noisily as they scatter in panic from a feeding trout. I pause and whisper "Praise God, thank you for this day" and make my first cast.

A Scout is Reverent.
