Troop 1113 August Newsletter

The Past:

July was as cool as it gets. Troop bowling night at Fun Plex was the very best. The pins were flying, and I think Allen and David have been practicing. Many thanks to those who helped with the troop’s service to the church on ‘Donut Sunday’. Also, it was a very special moment to see Donna Sellers receive her Wood Badge beads. Congratulations Donna!!

The Present:

August is totally full. It begins with a very special event - the Eagle Court of Honor for Tim Osborne on Tuesday, August 5th. It will be followed by the Lazer-Quest lock-in on the 9th – 10th. If you have not already signed up there is still time. But we do need your monetary commitment in order to guarantee yourself a night of extreme fun!! We will be conducting troop elections on the 12th. This is the big one. Choose wisely, for they will lead you through the year. Patrol elections are scheduled for the 19th. The same holds true for choosing wisely, as they too will lead you through the year. And probably one of the biggest events of the year will be the annual calendar planning on Saturday the 23rd (location to be announced). Everyone is encouraged to attend. It is your opportunity to help plan the campouts and events that the troop will participate in for the next twelve months.

The Future:

In the months to follow, there will be many opportunities for all. If you have not completed your Ordeal to OA, there is one more opportunity on September 19th – 21st at several locations. There will be campouts, OA Fall Pow-Wow, Webelos Extravaganza, Eagle Projects, Rock Gym, and yes, winter camp. Now is the time to make that commitment.

SM Minutes:

September brings a change in the air and a change in the troop. In August of 1996 I was given the privilege to become Scoutmaster for Troop 1113. I have had so many memorable experiences since then, far too many to list. But none would have been possible without the seemingly never-ending participation of the adult leaders that have been involved with this troop and I thank-you one and all. However, at the first of this year I was assigned new responsibilities at work, in addition to the ones I already had. Soon after that it became apparent that I would no longer be able to commit the time needed to provide the proper leadership as Scoutmaster. So a committee was formed to seek someone to take over as Scoutmaster. The committee has found that someone, whom I feel is more than qualified to fill the position of Scoutmaster, and that person is none other than Mr. Doug Bohn. Doug has received the approval from Father Nick and the paperwork has been filed. Doug is an Eagle Scout with many years in scouting, and has held many positions in his scouting career. The official transition will take place at the Court of Honor on September 9th. Please make plans to attend and show your support. I will continue to work with the troop as a member of committee. Walk upon the trail that links the future with the past. Take the Oath, Live the Law. The pathway to Eagle is steep and narrow. Your journey will require skill and fortitude. Your reward: Knowledge and Understanding, enough to base a lifetime on. Your challenge is to; Take the journey, join the few and soar with the Eagle.

Yours in Scouting
