TROOP 1113 AUGUST 2007

The past: July has come and gone and with it a great time at Horseshoe Bend Ranch.

Congratulations to the sixteen scouts who braved the rains at summer camp and made this one of the most productive years the troop has had in earning ranks and merit badges.

A second congratulations and very big THANK YOU to my assistant leaders on this trip Mrs. Loretta Campbell and Mrs. Susan Gonzales. Both of these women stepped forward to fill a need for adult leadership at camp. It was not easy for them; ask about their tent mates (eight legged and furry). Final word on camp, if you weren’t there you missed a great event that won’t happen again.

The Present: The troop is still trying to organize a Patrol Leaders Council Meeting to put together a calendar for 07-08. At the present time we have nothing on the schedule for August in the way of Troop events. Troop 1113 has always tried to be a Boy Ran Troop. That is the way the program is designed and should work. In other Troops this method has not been successful and the Scoutmaster and his Assistants have taken over. As Scoutmaster I will not let this troop fail.

The future: Without a calendar it is hard to write a paragraph about the future events of the troop. In the near past we have spent the night camping under the stars at SFA state park, gone bowling, and had lock-ins at game rooms or lazor quest. These choices were made by the Patrol leaders council, not me the scoutmaster, (I would go fishing at Galveston). We will have an event in the month of August. Be Prepared is our motto.

Scoutmaster minute: We are at the beginning of another school year. Another chance at success or failure. Many of you scouts have missed out on summer camp or winter camp because of your grades at school and having to attend make-up classes. With a new year in school the doors of oppurtiuty open once again; will you have the courage to step through them? A scout is Brave.
