The Past:

Thanks to all for the garage sale help. A great big thanks to Mr. Mark Decker for assisting with Winter Camp. Lost Pines was a great week with good weather, good, good friends, and great scouting activities.

Present:

January 2004 starts off slowly. We have had to cancel the backpacking trip to E-rock for the 9-11th. David Nguyen has an Eagle project on January 17th, and finishing on the 18th. Pancake Sunday is also January 18th. The end of the month is our District First Aid Meet. This is Recharter month and all Scouts and Adult Scouts need to renew membership with the Troop. Dues must also be paid. For the Adult Scouts, January 23rd is the District Dinner.

Future:

The month of February starts off with the 12th part of the Scout Law—A Scout is Reverent—Sunday, February 1st is Scout Sunday. All Scouts and Adult Scouts and families are encouraged to attend 8:00 a.m. Mass at Notre Dame. The following weekend is a wonderful adult training opportunity the University of Scouting is February 7th. Court of Honor is Tuesday, February 10th, and an Eagle Court of Honor for Josh Sellers is to be held on Tuesday, February 17th. University of Texas is hosting a Merit Badge Fair in Austin on February 21st. Registration forms are available from me. Finally, we have troop elections on February 24th.

Scoutmaster’s Minute:

Junk food, you all know what it is, soda pop, chips, candy, and stuff like that. You all have heard how bad it is for you too. Well I believe there is a time for junk food in our lives. What is bad is a junk food only diet. No meat or vegetables, no greens or fruit, just junk food. Yes there is a time and place for junk food just not all the time and every place. Our troop meetings are like this too. We have games that fit into our meetings and make them more enjoyable for everyone. Like our diets the troop meeting should be balanced with servings of troop business, patrol discussions, learning activities, instruction and advancement opportunity and the junk food games. In this New Year let’s all try to maintain that balanced diet in our troop meeting and cut down on the junk foods.
