Troop 1113 June Newsletter

The Past:

May was not only smokin’ on the thermometer, but also with great times and opportunities. The swim we had at the Natatorium was the best. We had 5 scouts complete the second and first class swim requirements. Manuel Grajeda did the mile swim. Thanks to Graham & Sayed from Troop 791 and our very own Tim Osborne for providing the lifeguard duties. None of this would have been possible without Assistant Scoutmaster Doug Bohn making all the arrangements. The district food drive went very well. The scouts not only covered more area than in the two previous years, but they also collected more food than in the past. A special thanks goes out to Lee Gaspard for providing the multi-language flyer to aid in the drive. Donut / Pancake Sunday was a success also. I would especially like to thank Marlene Lord for her involvement in this past event and for all the other successful Donut Sundays we have had. We had the pleasure of welcoming Joseph Kwan into Scouting; he is Troop 1113’s newest member. Welcome Joseph!! And last but certainly not least, Schlitterbahn was great. Due to the restrictions placed on Randolph AFB, we were not able to stay there. So we did the one-day turnaround. And rumor has it that three Scoutmasters did the Sky Coaster. It drops you from 180’ to ground 0 in 3 seconds. Yee haw, "Here We Come Again"!! Thanks Doug and Steve, it was great.

The Present:

June brings summer camp at Horseshoe Bend, located at El Rancho Cima. It will be a great adventure for all. The camp is from June 15th thru the 21st. Those attending will need a copy of their insurance medial cards (front and back). A word to the wise, do not wait until the last minute to check the Troop library for the merit badge books you may need for your classes. Review the package you have been given. On a special note of interest, Paul Nester and Spencer Meredith will be on staff at HSB. The troop meetings after summer camp will be focused on first aid and orienteering.

The Future:

Summer will bring Troop night bowling, Laser Quest lock-in, and possibly a Rock Gym lock-in. Tim Osborne has his Eagle Court of Honor scheduled for August 5th. August also brings troop elections and our annual event planning on August 23rd. That is one you want to mark on your calendar. It is open to all scouts and you may want to have some input for where the troop goes next year.

SM Minutes:

Scouts, the postage stamp you see on envelopes are given the job of making sure that important pieces of mail are delivered to the proper person. The stamp is pretty small but, in spite of its size, it did the job.

In your patrols, each of you has the responsibility of "delivering the mail" in order that your patrol becomes a success. Like the postage stamp, it isn't your size that determined how well you do the job, rather, how well you stick to it. We can't all be good at all things. Some are better at physical skill, some at mental tasks. Remember the stamp. It did the job in spite of its size by sticking to the job. Make up your mind that you can do the same thing. Just determine to do your best - and stick to it until the job is done.

Yours in Scouting
