Troop 1113 - June 2004 Newsletter
The Past – May was a month of many activities. The Order of the Arrow held an Ordeal ceremony at Camp Bovay on the 7th and 8th. Our newest O.A. members Tim Bohn and Trey Steele represented troop 1113. On the 15th the troop participated in the Tatanka District Food Drive. Sunday the 16th was a money-earning pancake Sunday. Finally we ended the month with our annual Schiltterbahn trip. If you weren’t there you definitely missed out on a great day on the water.
The Present – summer vacation is upon us. Family vacations and backyard BBQ’s. Our troop will be gearing up for Summer Camp at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. For those of you who had time conflicts with our troops summer camp plans remember S.H.A.C.’s still has openings on the Super Troops Camps.
The Future – July is a hot month needing cool activities. Our troop’s annual bowling night is on the calendar for a cool night out. Stay tuned for surprise events that will chill you this month.
Scoutmaster Minute – summer is one of my favorite times of the year. Long days and warm nights make for a fun time of staying up late and sleeping in during the cool of the morning. What a wonderful thing, summer, sleeping late and freedom from school. Let’s pause for a reality check!!! While staying up late and sleeping in may seem like summer’s gifts or freedoms; any and all things done in excess lead to harm in one way or the another. A gift misused is an insult to the gift giver. Freedom equals responsibility that you have been entrusted not to abuse or you will be found untrustworthy. Does this sound familiar: "Son your mother and I have to work tomorrow and are going to bed, don’t stay up to late!" Or maybe this: "Please get up early enough to mow the lawn before it get to hot." Enjoy your summer, enjoy your freedoms and remember - A Scout is Trustworthy.
