Troop 1113 March Newsletter

The Past:

February was a time for changes. Our original campout scheduled for Lake Summerville Birch Creek Unit was relocated to Brazos Bend due to the Trailway being closed due to high waters. Brazos Bend was like coming home and revisiting the 3 Eagle projects the Troop has done there, which by the way were all looking great. We had rain and a definite change in the weather (yes, the north wind did definitely blow). All who participated had an excellent time. The Troop also conducted its Troop Elections. Congratulations to Juan Medina – Senior Patrol Leader, Paul Nester – Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Manuel Grajeda – Scribe, Chris Decker – Quartermaster, John Dinwiddie – Librarian, Kevin Metcalf – Historian and Trey Steele – Chaplin’s Aide. Also, congratulations to new patrol, the Burning Pistons – patrol leader is Manual Grajeda and his assistant Caleb Williams. Also congrats to the Shadow Wolves – Alex Espitia – Patrol Leader and his assistant Christopher Lee.

The Present:

March brings our semi-annual Court of Honor, as well our Order of the Arrow Elections. We will also be participating in the "On My Honor" Spring Camporee on the 14th thru the 16th and sponsoring two events, the nature "Kim’s game" and Campsite Inspections. The troop does need volunteers for this event as well as for Donut / Pancake Sunday on the 16th. The following weekend will be OA Spring Fellowship. As of press time we are also trying to arrange for a meeting for the Natatorium. In order for this to happen, we need to arrange for two certified lifeguards. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The Future:

Now is the time to reserve your slot for summer camp at Iron Wheel Mesa. Deposits are now being accepted. You cannot wait until May to make your decision. Next month brings the Troop’s family campout to Enchanted Rock. There are only so many sites available, so sign up early.

SM Minutes:

The greatest waste of our natural resources is the number of people who never achieve their potential. Get out of that slow lane. Shift into that fast lane. If you think you can't, you won't. If you think you can, there's a good chance you will. Even making the effort will make you feel like a new person. Searching for the things that can’t be done and doing them make reputations. Aim low, boring. Aim high, soaring. And remember scouts, "Never Ever Stop Exploring!"

Yours in Scouting
