Troop 1113 May Newsletter

The Past:

April was an interesting month and unfortunately due to a lack of sign-up for Guadalupe River State Park, we had to cancel the outing. However, we did have a great time teaching and learning orienteering. I also want to thank everyone that participated in Notre Dame’s Church Bazaar. The church has expressed their appreciation for all your help.

The Present:

Notice: ALL MONIES FOR SUMMER CAMP ARE DUE NOW!!! May should prove to be an excellent one. There will be two opportunities for our ordeal candidates to do their ordeal. One will be at El Rancho Cima (May 3rd thru the 4th) and the other at Camp Strake (May 10th thru the 11th). We will be practicing tent setups (all) as well as beginning new merit badges throughout the month (communication, citizenship in the community and space exploration). We also have Donut Sunday on the 19th. And the outing for the month will be to Schlitterbaun on the 25th. We may be leaving on the 24th if we can stay at RAFB (getting approval this year is a little more difficult because of 9-11)

The Future:

June, well we all know what June brings! Summer Camps!! Emerald Bay the 9th thru the 15th and Iron Wheel Mesa the 16th thru the 22nd. I am sure there will be some great stories to be shared when all have returned.

A Note From The Committee Chairperson:

I have the following training information:

Outdoor Leader Skills – May 18th and 19th (contact Joe Sellers for details)

SM Minutes:

Now, Scouts, there is a very special day this month and I am wondering how long has it been since you said, "Thank you, Mom. " I'm afraid that too often we take our mothers for granted. I suppose it might be awkward to try to say - in words - "Thanks Mom, I appreciate everything you do for me - and with me. " And of course, if we merely said those words and stopped there, they'd be a pretty empty kind of thanks, wouldn't they? I wonder just how a scout can go about saying thank you to his mother and father. The best way that we can show our appreciation is by making our parents proud of us; happy over the kind of person we are and are trying to be. No matter what else we do as a gesture to show appreciation on Mother's Day, certainly we want to do our very best to be the kind of person that are moms can be proud of all through the year.

Yours in Scouting

Bobby Metcalf
