Troop 1113 May Newsletter

The Past:

April proved to be one of the best months ever. Enchanted Rock had picture-perfect weather along with the greatest of experiences. The cave at the summit was challenging, but rewarding in the end for those that took up the challenge. Scout Fair provided some new experiences. This was the first time it was held in April and in the new Reliant Hall, which is an excellent new place of venue. This definitely brings in a new era for Scout Fairs to come. We were outside sharing our cobbler expertise. A special thanks goes to Kevin Bohacs and Scott Weaver for making it all possible. OK… semi-old news but I would like to take a brief moment to welcome new scouts Jonathon Figueroa, Oscar Garcia and Oliver Lee to the troop. Let’s all make them feel at home! I also wish to send out a very big congratulation to Donna Sellers for completing her Wood Badge!!! For those of us that have taken Wood Badge, we realize what a great accomplishment this is! Way to go Donna! We are all looking forward to your beading!!

The Present:

May is here and summer camp is just around the corner!! The swim night at the Natatorium is May 6th. Hope to see everyone there!! We will have merit badge sign up for summer camp on the 13th, please make plans to attend that meeting if you will be going. But all scouts know that the most important event in May is……. That’s right, Mothers Day! It is the time to show your mom how grateful you are for all the times she has helped you (way too many to count) and tell her you love her (which you do that every day anyway). We will be participating in district food drive on Saturday, May 17th. We really need 100% participation on this one. It is followed by Donut Sunday on May 18th. As of press time, due to the tighter restrictions at Randolph AFB our trip to Schlitterbahn may be slightly altered this year. It may require a one day turnaround if the restrictions are not lifted. Which will mean we will need additional help with drivers. So, parents we will need your assistance on this one and you’ll have a great time by doing it.

The Future:

All right! Summer camp is at Horseshoe Bend, located on El Rancho Cima! A great experience will be shared by all. We’ll also be looking at bowling, Lazer Quest and the Rock Gym, plus anything else you can dream up. Let’s make this a very special summer.

SM Minutes:

Scouts, if you're like most boys, you don't think of your parents very often. Oh, they're around all the time, of course, and sometimes they make you do things you don't want to do. But how often do you think of what your parents want from you? Probably not very often. Maybe you give them gifts at Christmas and their birthdays. But most of us don't go out of our way to help our parents as much as we might. I have a suggestion. Do you know what is the best gift you can give them? I'll tell you. Parents want most of all, and have a right to expect, that you will do your best to make them proud of you. I don't mean by becoming rich or famous, or even by getting all A's in school - although I hope you do your best at your studies. The best gift you can give them is to become the best man you can be. There is no better way to do that than by living up to the Scout Oath and Law. That is a gift you can give them right now and all the time, and it is a gift they will cherish above all others.

Yours in Scouting
