Troop 1113 November Newsletter

The Past:

Despite the rain, October proved to be a good month. I would like to start by welcoming our two newest troop members, Cyrus Brown and Caleb Williams. Let’s everyone really show them our Troop 1113 spirit. Our annual troop garage sale brought in over $350 dollars for the troop. Despite it being wet, the OA Pow-Wow was very nice. The 20k run was also a little damp on the set-up, but Sunday was great – fun in the mud! Thanks to all that participated. The Webelos Extravaganza wasn’t as lucky, it was called off due to excessive rain. It has been rescheduled for November. Popcorn (Joe Sellers) and troop pie sales (Vanessa and Rodger Meredith) began.

The Present:

IMPORTANT! - Final winter camp payment is due now! Popcorn and pie sale are also due!! Now that that’s out of the way, here’s the fun stuff. November is a busy month, so everyone needs to mark their calendars well. Beginning with Josh Sellers Eagle Project on November 9th @ Terry Hershey County Park. Josh’s project will be planting trees. Hope to see everyone there. Contact Josh Sellers @ 281-542-2135 for further details. Pie sale pickup is Saturday the 16th in the AM. You cannot be late for this. A really big event will be Brian Decker’s Eagle ceremony, which will take place on the 19th. We will be returning to Fort Travis on the 22nd thru the 24th.

The Future:

Ahhhh… winter camp is just around the corner. Lost Pines is the location and will take place on the 20th thru the 14th. It is also time to make your plans for summer camp now. We will be going to Horseshoe Bend @ El Rancho Cima, which provides horseback riding and many other activities. The staff is always the best. We will be attending June 15th thru the 22nd.

SM Minutes:

As Americans, we have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We live in freedom, most of us have an abundance of food and clothing, and we all have adequate shelter. We are as blessed as any people in the world, but sometimes we forget that and gripe that we don't have even more. Let's remember that a lot of the world’s population goes to bed hungry in homes that few Americans would want to live in.

So it's good to remind ourselves occasionally that we are lucky and thank God for our blessings. That's what Thanksgiving really is, a time to give thanks. The Pilgrims started it more than 100 years ago when they gathered to thank God for a bountiful harvest.

Today Thanksgiving is a time for family gatherings around a groaning table followed by watching football games. There's nothing wrong with that. But it's important that we don't forget the real meaning of Thanksgiving. So when you sit down with your family for Thanksgiving dinner, take time to count your blessings and thank God for them.
