Troop 1113 - October 2004 Newsletter

The Past – Did you blink? If so, you might have missed September. Let em recap the month…We had a wonderful campout at Lake Somerville, hunting for iron ore, lignite coal and completing a few rank requirements. Good weather, only a little rain and a great campfire. Other events, of the month were donut Sunday, Court of Honor, and brick making Saturday.

The Present – October finds us going full speed ahead. Staring the month with Notre Dame Bazaar on the 2nd, a good opportunity to acquire service hours. October 16th is the 20K Run setup on Saturday afternoon and the 17th, Sunday morning is the race event. The last weekend brings us to the Fall Camporee. This is the Webelos Extravaganza and a chance for our Troop to impress some for the local cub Scouts who will be joining Boy Scout Troops in the spring.

The Future – with the long holiday week, November is a short month but we still manage to keep busy. A camping trip to Galveston State Park, and delivery of our pie sales and popcorn sales fill this month.

Scoutmaster Minute – Let’s talk about the 4th Scout Law. A Scout if Friendly. This month we will be visited by one or more Cub Scout packs. We all know that our Troop is in need of young Scouts. Now do you remember when you were 10-1/2 years old and an ‘old’ kid—maybe 14 or 15—said to you "Hey, what’s your name?" You felt great, important, respected! So what’s the message here? Friendly does not have to be ‘sugar & nice". Friendly is respect. Looking another person in the eyes and acknowledging them as an individual, with rights, feelings and needs, like everyone else in the world. A Scout is Friendly.
