TROOP 1113 October 2006
The past: Well the school year is off and running and so is our troop year. In September we held our first pancake breakfast, with the extra activities going on at the church that Sunday we performed very well. Thanks to all the scouts who spent their Sunday morning with the troop. Our first campout of the fall was an event to remember. When was the last time you were able to sleep on a waterbed while camping with the Boy Scouts? Hopefully by now everyone has gotten their gear dried out.
The present: The month of October has two full weekends planned into it for our troop. On Saturday the 14th we will meet and go downtown to City Hall park where we will help set up for the 20K Fun Run. This usually lasts from 1pm to 5pm. Sunday the 15th we will return to the park and work as volunteers for the 20K. Lunch will be provided and there will be door prizes given away along with other cool stuff. Our troop will earn $500.00 to help pay for new equipment. Scouts will earn service hours needed for advancement. Friday the 27th we will attend the Tatanka district Webelos Extravaganza at Bear Creek Park. We will return on Sunday the 29th.
The future: November finds our troop heading out east to Camp Edgewood in Louisiana for winter camp. The cost is $100.00 and half must be paid by Oct. 3rd. We will sign up for merit badge classes the beginning of Oct. The Troop will need parents to drive us over to the camp and more parents to bring us back. We will be camping with Troop 300 who accompanied us to summer camp.
Scoutmaster minute: There is an old saying ‘Time waits for no man.’ Our troop has made it past the month of September without having to change our meeting time. This will change in October. We will be going to a Sunday evening meeting time for better or worse. Of course that too can change. This brings us to the Scout Motto, "Be Prepared." Did you know the motto is part of every rank award starting at second class and ending with the Eagle rank? Time waits for no man, be prepared.
