Troop 1113 September Newsletter

The Past:

August brought troop elections! Our congratulations to Brian Dinwiddie - Senior Patrol Leader, Tim Osborne - Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Brian Decker - Scribe, Johnny Ninh - Quartermaster, Eric Bao – Historian, Alan Nguyen – Chaplin Aide, and Nick Wood – Librarian. We also had some patrol renaming. We now have the Honking Wolves, the Flying Sharks, the Rogue Ewoks, the Screaming Vikings and the Rams. The annual planning meeting was held. We will be going to Sid Richardson for summer camp 2001. Your leaders also picked 2 possible summer camps for 2002. The following meeting, the troop selected Emerald Island in California. What a great selection! You will need to stay very focused on this one. Remember just a $1 a day! So, start now!

The Present:

September brings our semi-annual court of honor. It is the time to honor all our young men. We will also be having a troop bowling night on the 12th. You will be conducting troop junior leader training on the 16th. The 17th is our Donut Sunday service to the church as well as your pancake fundraiser. Good time to add to your accounts. Our monthly campout will be to the Guadalupe River. It will be an excellent way to finish off the summer.

The Future:

There are many great events on the horizon. The closest being fall camporee in October. Joe Sellers has a trek to Philmont this summer. At last check, there were a couple of openings. You must sign up now! It is on a first come basis. Serious inquiries only! We also have Lost Pines for winter camp. SM Minutes:

Scouts, you have learned to rely on your compass. You know that the needle points North and will guide you in the wilderness, but you have also seen what happens when a magnet is brought near the compass. The magnet is an outside influence on the character of the compass.

Each Scout has an aim in life. He wants to grow up to be physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. The points of the Scout Law make up the magnetic field that directs the compass needle we follow.

Just like the magnet, there are influences trying to change our aim. There are temptations difficult to overcome - temptations to get by without working, to lie, to cheat, to follow the coaxing of friends, and the jeers or threats of enemies.

If you are going to grow up to be physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight, you must not succumb to the attraction of the evil magnets in your life, but must be steadfast in your purpose of living up to the ideals of Scouting.

Yours in Scouting
