TROOP 1113 SEPTEMBER 2007
The past: The month of August just flew by. School starting, troop elections, calendar planning meetings, Eagle Court of Honors, and then to close the month out the troop went to Schlitterbahn in Galveston. Too bad you weren’t there. Willie Rodgers, Juan Hernandez and I had a great time. The lines for a ride were short, the water cool and the sun was hiding behind a grey cloud cover, just about a perfect day for this event.
I will say this Galveston Schilitterbahn does not compare to San Marcus Schlitterbahn.
The present: September looks to be a busy month for the troop. On Saturday the 15th Mrs. Rivera is organizing a garage sale for the troop. We will meet at Notre Dame church at 7:30 Saturday morning and work until 1:00 pm. Announcements have gone out in the church newsletter for donations. If your family has items to contribute please bring them that morning. All proceeds go to the troop fund. Sunday the 16th is our first pancake Sunday of the fall. Look for a sign up sheet at troop meeting, spend the morning cooking pancakes and sausages and earn some money for your scouting account. Invite your family to come to worship service at Notre Dame while you cook and then have a Sunday family breakfast. As Mr. Carr likes to say $2.00 buys you 2 sausages, 2 pancakes and all the syrup you can drink. Friday the 21st we depart for Galveston to take part in the Texas Beach Clean Up campout. Think service hours and beachcombing. Finally the 29th is a District training day for anyone interested in being a volunteer troop leader.
The future: October is very empty. Only one event on the schedule the always fun and lucrid 20k marathon. We will set up Saturday the 27th and work the race Sunday the 28th.This is a great event for the family to participate in. Look for a sign up sheet.
Scoutmaster minute: I am very excited about the year we have planned for the Troop. Here is the most interesting part of my excitement; I am looking forward to seeing each of you scouts again and seeing how much you have grown this last summer. Who will step to the leadership roles and take the troop further down the trail of scouting. Who will be the next Eagle Scout, what the new kids will be like, which of you has had enough a will drop out of the program? Let’s have a great year!
