Day 15, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - 570 miles
What? Are we back in Montana? The Big Sky is falling again! Bad deal. At 6:10, the bike was dry. At 6:15, well, take a look:

You can see water blasting out of the downspout to the
right. Anyhow, we had to press on since we needed to cover about 600
miles today. I pulled the bike under the hotel canopy and we packed up to go.
My thoughts: The only thing worse than a 600
mile day is to do it in the rain. The only thing worse than that is to do it in
the rain with cattle trucks passing you. It may not
all be clean water hitting you in the face if you know what I mean. The rain
was so severe that we were looking at the white
and dashed lines to make sure we were still on track. Cars were passing us with
their flashers on because they couldn’t see
either. After about 85 mile, we broke out and were able to stay ahead of it the
rest of the day. Unfortunately, our planned
visit to the Pipestone Monument went up in smoke… (Check the Web to see the slim humor there.)

We deviated from the GPS suggested route to make a side
stop. As you can see, Cathy’s picture is on the wall of the Post
Office. Since it’s on the outside, there is no problem here. At the end of 570
miles, we wound up at our evening destination.
We are in Galena, Illinois at the Chestnut Mountain Resort. The skiing isn’t
too good but the view is nice! See you tomorrow!
