Day 19, Sunday, July 27, 2008 - 249 miles
Planned destination: Unknown – Actual destination: Walcott, Iowa
We woke up at the cottage and had a wonderful breakfast
prepared by my Sister-In-Law Diane. (After her and I went for an
exercise walk – I knew I had calories coming!) After the day progressed and everyone
showed back up. People were talking,
swimming, and just enjoying each other’s company.

You can see the crowd around the pier. The WaveRunner was out running waves and Diane and Rachael we taking a swim.
Unfortunately, Cathy and I had to head down the highway. The
GPS said it was 598 miles so we knew we had to start
sometime. After goodbyes, we headed down the roads suggested by the GPS and
took I-39 to I-88 to I-80 which was a little
different. It was toll road and with the congestion, traffic and road
construction, probably not a real good value. Of course, by
the time you worked through the small towns the other way, it was probably OK.
I was hoping to make Coral City or better and
stay at a Hampton Inn as my points are going to expire in August, however, a
rainstorm caused us to exit here at Walcott, IA
and stay at the Days Inn. Since the hotel is not very photogenic, how about a
picture out the south window?

This one has a bit of a rainbow shown with a fainter one
about ¾ the way across to the right. The camera had a hard time
capturing them but they were quite vivid to the naked eye. We should have about
375 miles to go. Perhaps we can eat lunch
at Dos Chuiqitas in Bethany, MO. (I may have spelled it wrong but I KNOW how to
get there. Good chili rellenos.) That will
be our last day! It’s been a bit of an adventure and a fun story to tell to
you. It may take me a day or two to compile the
statistics as I will have to spend some time in the REAL world. Until then,
goodnight!
