Day 2, Thursday, July 10, 2008 – 581 miles
After we got up, we hit the highway and headed North.
On the way, we had to visit the Geographic Center of the United States.

That is the plaque that tells about it.

Of course you need another picture of Cathy. (It keeps the perspective right.)
This was a long hard day for us. The temperature hit 98° in places and we wound up putting on
581 miles before the end of the day. Anyhow we blasted along Interstate 80 at 75 mph most of the day.
Western Nebraska is about the same as Western Kansas other than going along the Platte River so there are more trees.

I took a picture so you wouldn’t need to go. Save the gas money, etc.
At Cheyenne, near the Warren AFB (Good name!) we picked up WY210 which was a great bypass.
Unfortunately, we didn’t stop for pictures where it went through the Medicine Bow Forest. (Regrets!)
It was also known as “Happy Jack Road” and the “Sand Creek
Massacre Trail” so that might need some
history browsing There is a large Lincoln Memorial on the West end but we
wanted to get to our stop.
We hooked back up with I-80 at Larimie. Again, we stayed in a KOA Kamping Kabin. (SIC)

If you look close, you will see Cathy’s face now has a pink hue…mine is even redder than normal.
I sunburned the backs of my hands pretty well before I was smart enough to wear gloves.
Oh well, live and learn, get old, forget, learn again. Good night!
